SIME Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), the importer and distributor of Porsche in Malaysia, launched the limited edition Porsche 718 Cayman SportDesign Series to continue its growth ambitions this year and the next.
This sporty new option package is a follow-up to the 718 Cayman that was launched here more than two years ago. Only 15 cars are available with five each in one of the three choice colours – Racing Yellow, Guards Red and Carrara White Metallic – and interest among Porsche buyers is said to be high.
As a compact sports car that is already visually impressive in looks to belie its status, the SportDesign Series enhances its overall appearance through several external details that begin with the newly designed front spoiler to achieve a ‘unique front end’ and a rear apron. A contrasting sporty appearance is achieved through the contrasting black accents on the doors and bonnet as well as the centrally positioned black tailpipes.
The accented exterior colour scheme of the 718 Cayman SportDesign Series combines with the carbon decorative and black leather interior for a more ‘visually succinct’ impression. Complementing the luxurious interior is a Bose Surround Sound System with 10 speakers promising ‘a sophisticated audio experience of the highest calibre’ to make sports car driving an even greater experience.
In standard form, the 718 Cayman comes with LED (light emitting diode) headlamps that include the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus, which are said to ensure optimum visibility without hindering other road users. The rear sees a three-dimensional taillight design that incorporates four-spot brake lights. It runs on 20-inch forged one-piece alloy wheel in high gloss black in either the Carrera S or Carrera Sport Wheel design.
The car’s performance credentials are true to form with the Porsche Active Suspension Management that lowers its body by 10mm for greater agility, Sport Chrono Package and PDK. To reflect its heady spirit, the 718 Cayman SportDesign Series sprints from the lights to 100km/h in under four seconds and its combined fuel consumption is 7.0 l/100km or 14.3km/1.
This 718 Cayman SportDesign Series is priced at RM625,000 that includes all applicable duties except registration fee, road tax and insurance. It comes with a four-year warranty and free maintenance package, which is the norm for all the vehicles sold by SDAP.
The Porsche importer has also been on an expansion curve in recent times having opened a sales centre in Penang last year to complement its operations in Glenmarie, Selangor and Jalan Sungei Besi. By the third quarter of 2019, it would open a new base in Ara Damansara to serve as its headquarters.
According to SDAP CEO Christopher Hunter, the new six-storey building would have a new car showroom on the ground floor, a pre-owned vehicle section on the second floor, car service areas on the third and fourth floors, and the management team on the upper floors.
By the first half of 2020, SDAP expects to open a new sales centre in Johor Bahru to give Porsche optimum coverage on the west coast of the Malaysian peninsula. There are also plans to introduce electric performance models to the market next year to generate new demand along new trends.
